Necessary for beginning a career in broadcasting/journalism

Any journalism, broadcasting, or media communications major should study this book. It's an easy read, the chapters give a ton of examples, and really helps understand what all goes on in the newsroom, how to work in the field, and how to write stories better. Stations and newsrooms are looking for great writers--something that is really lacking in many places in the industry. My professor, who also directs at a major news station taught straight out of this book;everything that he wanted to teach us was in this book. I learned so much and I feel as though I'm a better writer because of it.

a good study guide

I'm currently taking a few journalism classes, and this book was a required reading material for one of them. The author knows what he is talking about, and he tries to explain things so that his readers can understand in the quickest time possible (which is a good idea to practice in the journalism world).

There is a lot of info that he throws at you, though, so be sure to take a lot of time to re-read the chapters!

About the Author

Krzysztof (Kris) Iniewski, Ph.D., manages R&D developments at Redlen Technologies, a manufacturer of high resolution Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) semiconductors in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and is also executive director of CMOS Emerging Technologies Inc. (www.cmoset.com). His research interests are in hardware design for medical and networking applications. From 2004 to 2006, Dr. Iniewski was an associate professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Alberta, where he conducted research on low-power wireless circuits and systems. Previously, he held various technical and management positions in industry, developing a number of VLSI chips used in optical networks, and he was also an assistant professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Iniewski has published more than 100 research papers and holds 18 international patents granted in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Japan.

Glad to see this book published. To have so many different points of view on the subject of Smart Grid infrastructure and networking is very valuable. Since the subject itself and even the definition of "Smart Grid" varies from one extreme to the other it is important to have insight into all different views, projections, developments, and opinions.

I did not find anything new - but it is a concise summary of 2012 state of the art smart grid with a few forward looking items, but most of my(Eskom!) project portfolio has these issues on current projects...

About the Author

Dr. Jose Galizia Tundisi obtained his PhD (Estuaries Ecology, 1969) at the University of São Paulo/University of Southampton and his DSc (Ecology, 1977) at the University of São Paulo. He is President of the International Institute of Ecology in São Carlos, Brazil. He was previously a Full Professor of Biological Sciences, Federal University of São Carlos, 1972-84; Full Professor of Environmental Sciences, University of São Paulo, 1984-94; and President, Brazilian of the National Research Council, 1995-99. His awards include the Gold Medal “Augusto Ruschi”, Brazilian Academy of Sciences, 1986; the Moinho Santista Prize in Ecology, 1992; the Highest Brazilian Award for scientific achievement; the Boutros Ghali Prize for Environment and Development, UN, 1995; and the Commendador, Brazilian Government. He is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the São Paulo Academy of Sciences, and the Ecology Institute, “Excellence in Biology”, in Germany. Dr. Tundisi is the founder and director of the International Institute of Ecology in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Dr. Takako Matsumura Tundisi graduated in Natural History and received her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Zoology) from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. She was a lecturer and researcher in Aquatic Ecology at the Federal University of São Carlos for over two decades. Today, she is a director of the International Institute of Ecology (IIE) and of the International Association of Ecology and Environmental Management (IIEGA) in Brazil, both research and consulting organizations that have developed numerous research projects in water resources management and water quality through mathematical modeling.
