In meetings on his first job out of college, James Sudakow found himself struggling to pick up a bizarre new language: corporate-speak. He pretended to know what they were saying, but in actuality, he had no idea what expressions like “singing from the same song sheet” or "picking the low hanging fruit" meant or why strange phrases like these were being used to talk about business operations. Had he missed something important in his education that would have prepared him for this? With time, Sudakow adapted to the language; and much to his own embarrassment, he found himself actually using many of these same expressions. For his own sanity, he came up with a plan to combat this corporate-speak language – and it all started with a whiteboard in his office. He listed all of the words and phrases his colleagues, even superiors, were not allowed to use in his office - less they allowed themselves to be subjected to some form of office hazing. “I wondered if we all knew how ridiculous we sounded using these generally weird phrases, instead of just speaking in plain English.” Sudakow says.“I wanted to call attention to the way we were all communicating and see if we could change it.” Ironically, not only did his experiment not deter their use of any of the expressions on his whiteboard, Sudakow found that his colleagues put up with the hazing with seemingly far too much enjoyment and also began to actually, if not enthusiastically, add additional phrases to his whiteboard, taking great pride in their contributions. That whiteboard became the premise for his new book, "Picking the Low-Hanging Fruit… and Other Stupid Stuff We Say in the Corporate World", a humorous corporate glossary that sheds an irreverent light on the weird things we say in the corporate world every day.

About the Author
James Sudakow serves as the principal of CH Consulting, Inc., a boutique management and organizational effectiveness consulting practice he founded in 2010. He specializes not only in refraining from using any of the expressions referenced in this book, but also in helping companies manage organizational transformation and create talent management strategies and programs that maximize employee capabilities and improve business performance. Before starting his own consultancy, James held leadership roles in several global multibillion-dollar organizations across the technology and health care industries. Sudakow received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and his master’s degree from the University of Arizona. He currently lives in Southern California with his wife and three children, as well as the family’s two rabbits and one lovably neurotic dog whose breed origins are a mystery and will continue to be until someone forks over the $80 required to get the DNA test.

…if you appreciate the humor of the corporate world (too few of us really do)
…if you work with people who talk like this (of course you do…who doesn’t?)
…if your boss’s birthday is coming up (maybe just leave a copy anonymously on his chair – in fact, yes…do that!)
Maybe, just maybe, one book at a time…one person at a time, we can reclaim some sanity in the corporate world by exposing just how stupid we all sound. At the very least, if we shine a bright light on all of these idiotic sayings, we’ll force the corporate world to come up with an entirely new set of silly phrases.
Now, excuse me while I go prepare a deck mapping out the paradigm shift that our turnkey solution will deliver to the market…thereby solving our burning platform crisis.

Laugh out Loud Funny

This book is for anyone who has worked in the corporate world, likes to laugh, and needs some stress relief. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the ridiculous phrases we use to often (in very serious tones, of course). I especially loved his descriptions of "What this does not mean" and the pictures to go along with the explanations. Easy to pick up and read even if you say you don't have time to read. You should make time for this one, especially since we probably need more fun in the midst of our busy (and all too serious) business lives.

Impress Your Friends at Parties WIth Lines From This Book

If you work in a corporate environment, you'll find yourself finishing the sentences along with the author, as all of his observations are that spot on. If you work outside of corporate America, you will no doubt find this useful if you need to translate what your nine-to-five acquaintances are talking about when they descend into business-speak. If you don't work at all, you'll enjoy the book because you'll feel infinitely superior to all of the people to spend their days uttering mindless drivel. All kidding aside, this is a fun read!
