Awesome for an intro book!

Absolutely everything written and explained in the book is laid out in a clear and concise fashion that should make it accessible even to non engineers. All of the examples are highly useful and all important topics are covered. I would reccomend this book even if it isn't the required book of your class.

Good introduction. Not the best I've ever read or seen but if you're trying to decide if Mechanical Engineering is for you this book is a head in the right direction. DO NOT however solely base your decision on this book. I am a Mechanical Engineer and this book was not what did it for me.

At college (Rutgers School of Engineering) there is a mandatory class for all incoming engineers. In that class, every major that is offered in engineering at Rutgers is presented to give you a better understanding of what the major involves. Honestly, I am a huge fan of airplanes. I am a fanatic and I love the theory behind them. Couple that with math and Mechanical Engineering just seems like it is a perfect fit. Unfortunately, I can't really think of any "intro" or "starter" book that really got me into mechanical engineering. There are way too many aspects of mechanical engineering to cover in one intro book. You can literally go into almost anything as a mechanical engineer. From buildings to missiles to air conditioners to engines and even to space systems. You can do almost anything. Also, you're not going to find a mechanical engineering intro book that is heavy in math or physics. That also never made sense to me either. That is pretty much the heart and soul of mechanical engineering yet it is mostly left out in intro books. Anyway, good luck in your search!

As a person who constantly seeks to educate myself on new topics i decided i would get this book and learn more about mechanical engineering. I was not disappointed. The book does a great job of explaining the principles of mechanical engineering in a way that can be easily understood by those with no prior physics knowledge and still appreciated by those with it. For anyone interested in learning more about the world of mechanical engineering this is a good cheap book. I wish it were more project oriented but i wont hold that against the book.
