Roger, an experienced dominant, quickly sizes her up as a born submissive and proceeds to introduce her to spanking and bondage, to which she responds enthusiastically. Increasingly dissatisfied with her aimless existence while experiencing ecstatic pleasures unknown before, she accepts his offer to come live with him as his slave, agreeing to accept a life of total dependence in which she has no rights of her own but an absolute obligation to submit to all of her Master’s desires.

As the live-in companion of a wealthy man she is forced to abandon her bohemian ways and is thrust awkwardly into fashionable society, where she becomes known as a great beauty. In the course of her three-year odyssey she encounters a variety of colorful characters—the university professor who teaches history by day and conducts sadomasochistic orgies by night, a dominatrix doctor, a rock drummer with a spanking fetish, a fashion photographer she poses for and who lusts after her, the fellow submissive with the fragile ego whom she befriends and tries to protect, and Olympia, Roger’s former lover and now bitter business rival, who guesses her secret life and uses it to torment her. Eve’s adventures include being a guest at a dinner party of sadomasochists in which the maid is caned, participating in a spanking party and in a terrifying orgy with two other submissive girls.

But she finds her greatest pleasures when alone with her Master in his luxury apartment, in his bed, or over his knee, or bound naked to a cross or a bench in the room he has turned into his own private dungeon. In time though, even these pleasures are not enough, for what she craves most of all is to be truly loved by her moody work-obsessed Master. When she comes to feel neglected, she is finally driven to rebel, provoking a crisis that will end up changing her life forever.

I love this author's voice. He did a wonderful job of getting into the submissive's head. Great job with characterization. Also, check out "Loaning Out Linda." I look forward to yet another book from this author.

What I appreciated the most was the realism in the struggle Eve went through to learn submission. Submission is no walk in the park, and somehow this male author was in tune with the mental struggle it requires.

Not sure what this books is trying to be

As a theory book, it is superficial and doesn't go into much depth but still requires a calculus base. I wasn't really interested in a heavy theory book, so that was fine. The explanations are not the best, but not awful.

As an applied book, it does give many examples, but the examples are light up till about chapter 8 (out of 11). Chapter 9 starts to get into hierarchical bayesian modeling, but it isn't very well explained. The example the author uses is a softball example and in table 1, the data is presented incorrectly. She labels the binary 1,0 as at bats, and then n as hits. How do you get 5 hits at 1 at bat? Later in the chapter, it is flipped back to 1 being there was a hit out of 5 attempts. That makes more sense. Little errors like that make it difficult for a novice like me to follow the model, notations, and what is trying to be estimated.

As a software manual, it is poorly written. R is barely talked about in chapters 1 through 7, and she uses the LearnBayes package from another book. That made me wonder why I'm using this book and not the other one. Openbugs isn't introduced till chapter 8 (out of 11), and it is a very cursory look.

I gave up after the middle of chapter 9, because it wasn't giving me what I wanted. I'm not sure what that is exactly, just not a good fit for me. I did not purchase this book, but got it from the library to look it over before deciding.

This isn't a horrible book, just not very clear what it is suppose to be.

Misleading title.

A more appropriate title would have been "Project Management AS a Small Business" instead of "Project Management for Small Business", which is a completely different focus. The basic ideas are still there, but they need to be extracted and converted to using them for your own projects in a small business, instead of running a project management small business. A bit disappointing and I'm struggling to finish it (because of the effort to convert ideas).

I really like this Lexi-comp. It is very through. The only thing I would like to see in it that is not there are the chemical structures of the active compounds and a section with the US brand/generic options. Overall though, it is a very good referrence book.

Great story to age-appropriately explain scoliosis to kids.

My 8 year old had a Mehta cast applied during his February vacation. He had never worn the cast at this school. When classes resumed, we gave his teacher a copy of Cole and the Crooked Flower to keep in the room. She read it that 1st morning & 20 kids (10 boys & 10 girls) were absolutely engaged with the story and LAUGHING at the different sections. It helped make their understanding of scoliosis and casting very age appropriate and helped them realize that my son was the same little boy, just trying to fix his crooked. Highly recommend the book!

Then this wonderful book was written

When my daughter was diagnosed with progressive infantile scoliosis there were no children's books to explain what was happening
to her spine, and how serial Metha casting was going to help her. Then this wonderful book was written, straight from a family who has
experienced everything first hand. It's wonderfully worded, easy for children to understand, FUN and my daughter asks me to read it over
and over again.

A great book for any child or sibling, with a message of patience, persistence and ingenuity.

Wonderful story of love for all children!

This is an absolutely darling tale about love and persistence. Cole is a little boy who won't give up on helping his crooked flower to grow straight. A perfect metaphor for parents to use to explain what the cast will do for their child with Progressive Infantile Scoliosis (PIS). The illustrations are beautiful as well. As a parent to a PIS child and a 'straight spine' child, I highly recommend it for both.
