Takes you to the hills and nature again. It helped me feel at peace on rough days and when my mind was racing. There is a philosophical angel in some notes which also is nice.

It's literally brief notes, hence if someone doesn't like to read and ponder and hang around on same page for long then, you'll brush through it but may not enjoy since not much continuity.

About the Author
Meredith J. Gill is Professor of Italian Renaissance Art in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is the author of Augustine in the Italian Renaissance: Art and Philosophy from Petrarch to Michelangelo (Cambridge University Press, 2005) and co-editor, with Karla Pollmann, of Augustine Beyond the Book: Intermediality, Transmediality and Reception. Among her other publications are articles in Renaissance Quarterly, Storia dell'Arte, and Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte, and essays in Rethinking the High Renaissance: The Culture of the Visual Arts in Early Sixteenth-Century Rome; The Possessions of a Cardinal: Politics, Piety, and Art, 1450-1700; The Renaissance World; and Rome (Cambridge University Press, 2005). She has been a fellow at Villa I Tatti (The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies) and the National Humanities Center, and the recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Just Keeps Getting Better!

Fans of the first two installments of CJ Anaya’s Healer Series will not be disappointed with the third installment, The Grass Cutter Sword. Anaya’s work just keeps getting better, and the stakes continue to rise in this fast paced, intense, romantic adventure..

Book three begins with our heroine, Hope still reliving her past as the prophesied healer and Japanese princess Mikomi. Mikomi comes into her own in this novel, transforming from the meek and mild princess we first met in book two to a fearsome samurai warrior giving aid to the rebel army trying to overthrow her tyrannical and sadistic father, the emperor. In this installment Mikomi risks her life for the rebel cause, battles her inner demons, finds true love, discovers a flaw in the prophecy, fights, loves, laughs, and cries. We are taken on such a fun ride with Mikomi as we learn secrets of the past that will change the course of Hope’s future. What more could you want?! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and Anaya’s quick wit and humor once again make this book shine.

For those of you who can’t wait to get back to the present day to see what is happening with our beloved characters from the first book of the series (Hope, Tie, Victor, Angie, Kirby, James, and Chinatsu) and the fate of our modern day world, your time has come! The Epilogue (SMALL SPOILER ALERT) brings us back to present day. Hope is now armed with the memories of her previous life, knowledge only she has about the prophecy, and information about our other favorite characters who are more than they appear to be. The flash forward could have been jarring, but Anaya writes it seamlessly allowing us to easily flow back to the present and bask in Angie’s loyalty and hilarity, Tie’s dreamy eyes, Victor’s strength and determination, and Kirby’s innocent enthusiasm. This series has everything. It’s got history, fantasy, magic, curses, Asian mythology, fast paced action, and best of all a centuries-simmering romance between star-crossed lovers. Mikomi and Musubi’s romantic tension is strung so tightly I found myself holding my breath for them.

Of all the three Healer books I’ve read so far, this one captivated me the most; however, the ending of this installment (which I won’t spoil) made me want to go back and savor all of them again. Anaya has done such an incredible job of weaving all three plotlines together even though they time-jump, that I can’t wait to see what the next book holds.

This series is pure energy, and I also love that it’s a clean read. Highly recommended for fantasy and romance readers. I’m giving my hard copy of book one to my teen daughter so she can get started on them.

Great romantic and action packed

The third book of the series did not disappoint, I couldn't put the book down. The Grass Cutter Sword continues where Black Blossom left off seeing Mikomi becoming a force to be reckoned with, in her fight for the people she loves and discovering more about herself and her destiny. This book had many swoon-worthy romance scenes and fast paced action scenes keeping you glued to the story, with not wanting the story to end but also getting impatient to see what happens next. Its a story of love, friendship and fighting for what you believe in with wonderful characters. I cant wait for the next book- wish it would come sooner!

The World wasn’t Ready for the Genius of Tesla

This book should be required reading in schools. Authors Margaret Cheney and Robert Uth created a masterpiece on the life of Nikola Tesla, in my opinion the greatest mind the world has ever known. From his youth in (what is now) Croatia until his final days in New York City, all of the important events, discoveries, letters, inventions and diagrams are included. The fantastic photographs alone are worth getting this book; they are plentiful throughout adding a tangible nature to things that happened so long ago and are so difficult for the average person to comprehend, like wireless transmission of energy.
I cannot fathom how Tesla’s mind worked and probably never will, but my appreciation for Tesla and what he did for modern humanity is unsurpassed. I find him the most fascinating human who ever existed (aside perhaps only Jesus Christ). And the part that hurts the most is that Tesla did so much for us yet was constantly held back because he was way too far ahead of his time. He was purposeful hindered and disregarded by those in power who either didn’t want to see him succeed (Edison) or didn’t see the profit in what he was proposing (Morgan et al).
If those in power had only listened to Tesla and followed him, the world would be even more amazing than it has become because of his inventions. We could have had free, sustainable, environmentally-friendly energy worldwide. We could have had electric cars for over 100 years. We could have had a planet without war. We could have had so much that we can barely imagine. Unfortunately the world was not ready for Tesla in 1900, and sadly it is still not ready for his ideas.
I pray that Tesla’s own prophecy comes to fruition: that the future will be his. To say he was unappreciated during his time is gross understatement. I pray humankind of the future will learn to implement his ideas, though I’m not sure our brightest minds working together today could even understand what Tesla knew well over 100 years ago.
Tesla’s was the most amazing lifetime I have ever heard of. I’m so grateful to the authors for putting this wonderful book together. I want everyone to read it and know better the mind and astounding achievements of Nikola Tesla, the world’s premier genius.

Master of Lightning

Tesla was a very interesting, but troubled genius. This is the 2nd book I have read on Tesla and offers great insights into the man. An easy and worthwhile read. Contrary to the content of some other volumes on Tesla, this one does not require any level of technical knowledge. Lots of photos. This is an older book on the subject...while it is still available, it will have been on the shelf for a while and the jacket may look slightly abused.

My Favorite Inventor

This is an easy and interesting read. I reminds me of when I was a kid and my dad read books about the wright brothers and amelia earhart to me. This book would be a great book to read with and older kid. Tesla definitely got me interested in engineering and electricity, do yourself a favor and introduce your daughter to these disciplines.

because it is horrible!!

I didn't do much research on this book before buying it, I assumed, given the pictures, title and description that it was a book for children to help parents explain alcoholism. I am so thankful that I read this book BEFORE reading it to my children, because it is horrible!!! As truthful as it may be about the harsh reality of alcoholism, I would never want to put this horrible, sad story in my children's' minds. It gives them no hope for recovery, I personally am taking the love, support & encouragement route as al-anon teaches. Please be aware of this book for small children, very depressing and leaves little (if any) for hope.

This tiny book has a profound impact on many who read it. I purchased it after hearing the testimony of an AA member at a speaker meeting. She said she credits it for taking the first step to get sober. I keep it in my living room and read it often to help me cope with a family member suffering from the disease of addiction.

Powerful, but not really for children

My mother read this story to my sister and I when I was eight years old to explain to us that my father is an alcoholic. While the book is powerful and portrays an accurate metaphor for alcoholism, as I child I found it to be extremely traumatic. So yes, while it does a good job of explaining what alcoholism in terms that a young person can understand, as a young child reading this said to me that my father was going to die. I think there may be some better, less traumatizing ways to explain this to a kid, because 16 years later I still remember vividly how much this made me cry.
