About the Author
Carol Anne Douglas received a master's degree in political science from UCLA. She has always been torn between politics and literature. She has written more than 200 essays published in the feminist press and spent many years as an editor. She taught Women's Studies at George Washington University. Since she was a girl, she has loved the Arthurian legends, particularly the character Lancelot. This is the first of two volumes about the beauty and tragedy of Camelot from the perspective of a female Lancelot. Sherwood Smith, author of CROWN DUEL, said "Of all the Arthuriana I've read and loved, LANCELOT: HER STORY is right up top. It hearkens back to the galloping, castellated feel of Malory, and yet its twist speaks to today's audiences."

Terrific, fresh view of the beloved war hero who stole the queen's heart
By Vickie of Mt R
A book for many audiences, those who love the King Arthur legend---he has never been wiser, more thoughtful and visionary—those who love the Mordred angle—the so called witches are smart, often devoted, and their case is fairly presented—and those who just love a great story in the hands of an excellent writer. And of course, those readers who want a tragic love story. Here they will find an appealing Lancelot, a heroic warrior, who hides her gender successfully, and the beloved King’s wife who becomes her soul mate. Douglas shows the terrible costs of war and how it motivates Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot to always argue for peace. At the same time, several warriors are wonderful lively characters, whether in battle or drinking at the Round Table.
Lesbians, Star War fans, and Games of Throne partisans will find joy reading this book.

Delicious dialogue woven through a story of lesbian longing in Arthurian times
By Sue Lenaerts
This is a compelling story driven forward by a fresh historical outlook and fine dialogue. Having tasted Douglas’ solid works of theory and analysis, I’m thrilled to discover her ability to express herself—and her political bias--through fiction.
I love this book. Bring on a sequel!

Richly Imagined Novel by a Notable Author
By Katherine V. Forrest
In the expanding universe of LGBT literature, historical fiction writers are surely among our most important. Because they are restoring our visibility in periods where we’ve previously been rendered invisible. Because we were there. We’ve always been everywhere.
Lancelot: Her Story takes a place alongside Nicola Griffith’s brilliant Hild (2013, set in the Middle Ages), in its highly detailed depiction of life in medieval times, in its reimagining of the Arthurian legends, specifically that noblest, purest of heart Knight of the Round Table, that polestar of the Arthurian legends, Lancelot. The story is both ingenious and suspenseful in its reworking of the tapestry of medieval times and its endless wars through a feminist prism. Beginning with the trauma of a ten year old girl fiercely defending her mother from a rapist-murderer to her rebirth as a boy in disguise determined to train herself in the arts of self-defense, through the creation and growth of the idealistic warrior Lancelot who will prove herself in battle and sit at the right hand of King Arthur, then fall hopelessly, impossibly in love with Queen Guinevere. As will Guinevere fall in love with Lancelot, knowing at first sight that Lancelot is a woman.
This grand, very well retold love story is further gilded by two facts. One is that the author is a pioneer with strong roots in the birth of the LGBT struggle for civil rights and a noted medieval scholar, especially qualified to authentically reframe one of our oldest, most legendary tales with a slant that actually substantiates that paragon of virtue named Lancelot. The other very good news is that there will soon be book two in this richly woven story of Guinevere and her Lancelot.
